Carter stars O'Connell as Harley Carter, an actor who made his name as a detective on TV, who is forced to return to is his northern hometown after a public meltdown in Hollywood.

Shortly after he arrives home, Harley taps into his acting experience to become a real-life detective, partnering with his long-time friends, no-nonsense police veteran Sam Shaw (Sydney Poitier Heartsong) and witty, street-wise, coffee truck owner, Dave Leigh (Kristian Bruun).
