2018 PROGRAM

  • Future-Proofing Content Strategies

Canadian content bosses talk strategies for a competitive TV landscape

Broadcasters now have to juggle multiple platforms, rights windows and production partners in greenlighting original programming, as they seek to compete in a cluttered and expensive content landscape. So how are these factors, and more, influencing current and future commissions?

Join Canada's top programming executives as they discuss how the development and commissioning process has changed in recent years and what it may look like five years into the future. Issues to be discussed will include how international trends are shaping domestic greenlights, concerns about creative-talent shortage, trends shaping development, targeting global and local at the same time, the impact of recent social movements and key barriers impacting development and commissioning.

Connect with us for an insightful and compelling conversation into the forces driving development, commissioning and programming in this non-stop era of peak TV.

    Featuring:

  • Getting Carter

How Amaze Film + Television built the innovative strategy behind its new drama, Carter. Join our panelists as they dissect and discuss Carter, a new light-hearted police procedural from Amaze Film + Television for Bravo in Canada and AXN internationally. Delegates will get a sneak-peek of the series before its broadcast debut and hear how Amaze broke with the traditional Canadian TV series production model to build its series with Sony in advance of partnering with Bell Media. Carter stars Jerry O'Connell as Harley Mackay, an actor who made his name as a detective on TV, only to have a public meltdown, lose his job and be forced to return to his hometown. Once there, Mackay decides to use his fictional experience to help his friend and real-life detective Sam St. Clair (played by Sydney Poitier).
